Kevin Borjas

Kevin Borjas, known by the nickname "El Gallo Negro" ("The Black Rooster"), is a Peruvian mixed martial artist who competes in the flyweight division of the UFC.

Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Borjas turned professional in 2017 and spent years building his name on the South American regional circuit before catching the eye of the world's largest MMA promotion. He trains out of Pitbull Martial Arts Center, the gym where he sharpened the striking-forward game that has defined his career.

Borjas earned his UFC contract through Dana White's Contender Series, defeating Victor Dias by unanimous decision in the Season 7 opener at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. Dias controlled the opening round with wrestling and ground-and-pound, but Borjas adjusted, took over on the feet behind his jab and right hand, defended the ensuing takedown attempts, and closed the show in the third round to convince Dana White to award him a contract on the spot.

Stylistically, Borjas is a striker at heart, relying on range management, a probing jab, and a heavy overhand right to set up his offense. He has also shown the takedown defense needed to keep fights standing, where the bulk of his finishing instincts live — the majority of his career victories have come by knockout, several of them early, first-round stoppages that reflect his power and finishing instinct.
