Jan Błachowicz

Jan Błachowicz is a Polish mixed martial artist who competes in the light heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Błachowicz began training in judo as a child before moving into Muay Thai and kickboxing, building a lengthy amateur and professional striking background prior to transitioning to mixed martial arts. He built his early reputation on the European circuit with KSW, Poland's top MMA promotion, where he captured multiple light heavyweight tournament titles and the promotion's light heavyweight championship before signing with the UFC. He has long trained out of Warsaw, Poland, working with Polish grappling and striking coaches to round out his game.

Among his verifiable credentials, Błachowicz holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, awarded by instructors Kamil Umiński and Radosław Turek, reflecting a ground game built alongside his striking foundation.

Stylistically, Błachowicz is known as a well-rounded, heavy-handed striker who pairs power boxing with underrated wrestling and submission skills, giving him the ability to finish fights standing or on the canvas.

Błachowicz's career is defined by his UFC light heavyweight title reign. He won the vacant championship at UFC 253 in September 2020, stopping Dominick Reyes via second-round TKO. He made a successful first defense at UFC 259 in March 2021, outpointing Israel Adesanya in a unanimous decision that handed the middleweight great his first professional loss. Błachowicz's reign ended at UFC 267 in October 2021, when he was submitted by Glover Teixeira.

That championship run cemented Błachowicz's place in Polish combat sports history as just the second Polish fighter, after Joanna Jędrzejczyk
