Rafa Garcia

Rafael "Rafa" García Jr., known to fans as "Gifted," is a Mexican-American professional mixed martial artist who competes in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Born in Brawley, California and raised in the Imperial Valley community of El Centro, García was introduced to combat sports by his father at age 13. Before committing to fighting full-time, he worked for a seed company in the Imperial Valley. He turned professional in 2014, built an undefeated amateur foundation, and compiled early wins fighting in Mexico before establishing himself in the regional ranks. He now fights out of Mexicali, Baja California, training with Team Elevation out of UFC GYM Costa Mesa.

García's rise was cemented during his run with Combate Americas, where he went undefeated en route to capturing the promotion's lightweight championship in 2019, a run that helped earn him a contract with the UFC. He has also developed a grappling base in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, complementing an early background in high school wrestling.

Inside the cage, García is known as a physical, high-output fighter with a dangerous ground game. He is especially effective working for rear-naked chokes and armbars once a fight hits the mat, and he pairs that submission threat with heavy ground-and-pound and hard overhand strikes on the feet, giving him finishing ability wherever a fight takes place.

Since arriving in the UFC, García has recorded notable victories over experienced veterans, including Clay Guida and Vinc Pichel, along with a ground-strike stoppage of Jared Gordon that highlighted his finishing instincts under the bright lights.

As one of the promotion's Mexican-American lightweights, García carries the identity of his Imperial Valley and Mexicali roots into the Octagon, representing a career path that began in local Mexican promotions and grew into a fixture on the UFC roster. His combination of grappling pedigree, submission craft, and finishing power has made him one of the division's more unpredictable and entertaining competitors.
