The Haggarty Brothers are making waves in ONE Championship.
Jonathan Haggerty had an incredible year for his career in 2023. In April he knocked out the seemingly unbeatable Nong-O in the first round to earn himself the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai Championship. Next, in November, he earned another knockout win, this time over ONE Bantamweight MMA Champion, Fabricio Andrade. Though this was not a title defense for Haggerty, this fight was for the Vacant ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title. Now holding two belts, gives Haggerty lots of options, so what will be his next move?

The answer to that question has finally been announced by ONE recently. Jonathan Haggerty will make the first defense of his ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai Championship against the #2 ranked contender, Felipe Lobo. The Brazilian Muay Thai practitioner is coming off of a knockout win over #3 ranked Saemapetch Fairtex.
In his last fight, earning him his shot at the belt. The fight will be happening at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok for ONE Fight Night 19 on February 16th, broadcast on Amazon Prime Video in the United States and Canada. However, the Haggerty news doesn’t stop there. Many didn’t know until recently, but Jonathan’s younger brother, Freddie, is a Muay Thai fighter. Freddie Haggerty is booked to make his ONE Championship debut fighting at strawweight at ONE Friday Fights 49 on January 26th.
His opponent has not yet been announced. Many fans were skeptical, as it was reported that Freddie had never had a pro Muay Thai fight before. If true, that poses a huge disadvantage to him, especially if he’s fighting a Thai. Will the two-sport world champion’s brother defy the odds and collect his first win at ONE? We’ll find out on January 26th.
