Shara Bullet, whose real name is Sharabutdin Magomedov, lost his right eye due to a severe injury sustained during a training session in Thailand. The incident occurred in 2013, and despite multiple surgeries, the eye could not be saved. As a result, Bullet fights with only one eye.
Sharaputdin Magomedov, better known as “Shara Bullet,” is a highly touted Dagestani prospect, who almost had his career cut short due to a horrific eye injury. Shara made his highly anticipated UFC debut on October 21st, 2023 against Bruno Silva.
Shara Bullet’s Eye Injury
After suffering a severe eye injury early in his career, Magomedov (Shara Bullet) required eight surgeries on his right eye. In essence, he’s got a dead right eye. The injury took place during a training session in Thailand.
Shara Bullet’s eye injury is quite similar to that of former UFC middleweight champ and current UFC commentator, Michael Bisping.
There were concerns that Magomedov would not be able to fight again. At the end of all the procedures, the doctors cleared him to compete in MMA. The whole process resulted in a nearly two-year layoff, but since his return in 2021, he has looked nearly unstoppable.
Shara Bullet Eye Surgeries
Sharaputdin gave details of the procedures following his eye surgeries in an interview with the Athletistic:
“– Before the operation, I was mainly afraid of an injection in the eye. I watched this video. Very unpleasant. I thought that was the most boring thing ever. And there were such operations when an injection in the eye had to be made, where it was removed, one might say. At this time, local anesthesia is administered, but you feel everything.
– “They gouged out the eye”?
“They pierce it from two or three sides. It seems that a puncture is a camera, and the other two are something to pump, upload something there. I had many different stages, my eyes were tortured specifically.
– What was the doctor’s final recommendation?
– The doctor says: the worst thing that can happen to your eye has already happened. Therefore, you can practice.”
Sharaputdin Magomedov has won 15 straight, including eight first-round finishes.

Can Shara Magomedov Fight in America?
Due to the United States Athletic Commission, Shara Bullet might be banned from professional MMA bouts in the USA.
The UFC has not been able to get a one-eyed fighter cleared to compete in America. The reason Michael Bisping hid the fact he lost his eye after an injury sustained fighting Vitor Belfort. Bisping went on to fight with a prosthetic eye and win the middleweight strap.
Magomedov’s UFC Career
However, Shara’s UFC run has been off to a sensational start. In his UFC debut, the Dagestani defeated Bruno Silva, in a 30-27 decision win.
In his second UFC bout, he clinched a victory via TKO Antonio Troccoli at UFC on ABC 6. Then, he defeated Michal Oleksiejczuk via unanimous decision at UFC on ABC 7 in Saudi Arabia. Most recently he earned himself a knockout of the year highlight against, Armen Petrosyan at UFC 308.
On February 1st, 2025, Shara Magomedov lost to Michael “Venom” Page in the co-main event of another Saudi Arabia fight night. Headlined by Israel Adesanya vs. Nassourdine Imavov.
Shara Bullet successfully debuted at UFC 294 and is becoming a superstar. Figured I’d quickly fill you in on the first UFC fighter with one eye.
