UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs Gastelum Predictions and Fight Picks. Plus a special breakdown of Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren.
2-1 with my prediction picks on the Vettori vs Holland card. Last week’s whale play hit which was a massive win for us. The only miss was on William Knight, the underdog pick.
I won’t lie to you, UFC Vegas 24 is a major disappointment. So much so that I only have two UFC picks for you guys this week. I don’t see this card doing great viewer-wise. I’d rather just give you the two UFC picks I am confident with, and a surprise pick.
Robert Whittaker (-260) vs Kelvin Gastelum (+210)
Wish this match-up happened back in 2019 like it was supposed to, but Whittaker needed emergency surgery for a hernia. If we saw this fight in 2019 I think it would be much closer. However Robert Whittaker is on a mission to get his belt back, and Kelvin Gastelum won’t be the guy to ruin the mission. Robert Whittaker looked unstoppable against Jared Cannonier, who I believed was going to give Whittaker more of a challenge.
Gastelum went back to his wrestle in the Ian Heinisch fight. Bobby Knuckles has great takedown defense, but Kelvin will struggle to get the fight on the ground. Whittaker also has a 2-inch reach advantage. The original match up for UFC Vegas 24 was supposed to be Whittaker vs Costa. I had Whittaker winning that fight, I have Rob dominating Gastelum here.
Robert Whittaker (-260)
Alexander Romanov (-145) vs Juan Espino (+110)
Romanov and Espino are two of the best grapplers in the heavyweight division. Hands down my favorite match up for UFC Vegas 24. One difference between the two is Romanov does not purely rely on his grappling. Romanov hates letting the judges decide the outcome of his fight. 13-0, 4 wins have come by knockout, and the 9 others have come by submission. Juan Espino is 10-1, 1 win comes via knockout.
Giving the advantage to the 40-year-old Juan Espino if the fight does end up on the ground. Alexander Romanov holds the nickname “King Kong”, and basically fights like him. Romanov is under constant pressure and pretty wild in his striking approach. If he catches him early I could see Juan Espino completely selling out to get this fight to the ground. In doing so Espino could end up in a comparable position where Romanov would be able to finish the fight. I like the skill set Alexander Romanov brings to the table in this match up.
Alexander Romanov (-145)
UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs Gastelum is a tough looking card. This could be the reason why reporters are focusing on the Askren vs Paul card.
Ben Askren (+132) vs Jake Paul (-162)
I hate that I even mentioned the Askren fight but how is Askren the underdog? Vegas clearly remembers the last fight they saw. Yet forget to take into account the mindset a champion has entering training camp. Put some respect on a man who defended his title four times in Bellator, and three times in ONE. Askren also has 6 career knockouts.
Screw it let’s hammer Askren, the YouTube star is about to get embarrassed.
Bet: Ben Askren (+132)
