Abus Magomedov

Abusupiyan "Abus" Magomedov is a German mixed martial artist of Dagestani and Russian descent who competes in the middleweight division of the UFC.

Born in Russia, Magomedov relocated to Dusseldorf, Germany as a teenager and built his career out of UFD Gym in that city. Rooted in wrestling from an early age, a discipline steeped in Dagestan's combat sports tradition, he added kickboxing and striking to his game after settling in Germany and turned professional in 2010.

Before reaching the UFC, Magomedov spent over a decade fighting on the European regional scene and in promotions including the Professional Fighters League and KSW, compiling a long run of finishes and establishing himself as one of Germany's most dangerous 185-pounders well before he earned a UFC contract.

He signed with the promotion without going through the Dana White's Contender Series pipeline and introduced himself in dramatic fashion, stopping Dustin Stoltzfus in just 19 seconds, one of the fastest finishes in UFC middleweight history, a performance that earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. That showing was emphatic enough that, in only his second appearance under the promotion's banner, he was tapped to headline against future champion Sean Strickland.

Magomedov has since added notable victories over experienced UFC competition, including Warlley Alves and Brunno Ferreira, the latter finished by arm-triangle choke, along with a decision win over the dynamic Michel Pereira.

Stylistically, Magomedov is an all-action fighter who pairs heavy hands with a live submission game, having finished opponents by guillotine, kimura, rear-naked choke and arm-triangle in addition to his knockout power. That blend of finishing instinct and durability, forged over years on Europe's regional circuit before he ever set foot in the Octagon, has made him one of the more unpredictable and entertaining names in the UFC middleweight division.
