Career Overview

Alex Perez, known to fans as "The Decision," is an American fighter of Mexican descent who competes in the flyweight division of the UFC.

Perez was born and raised in Hanford, California, and trained out of nearby Lemoore, growing up in a large family alongside eight siblings. He began wrestling in the sixth grade with his brothers and went on to become a three-time league champion at Lemoore High School before earning regional champion and All-American honors while wrestling collegiately at West Hills College Lemoore. That amateur wrestling foundation became the base he later built his mixed martial arts career on, transitioning to the sport on the regional California circuit before turning professional in 2011.

Perez earned his spot in the UFC through Dana White's Contender Series and has trained with Team Oyama under coach Colin Oyama, supplementing his wrestling with jiu-jitsu instruction from Giva Santana.

Inside the cage, Perez is built around his wrestling pedigree, using takedowns and top control to set up a diverse submission arsenal that includes rear-naked chokes, guillotines and arm triangles, while also carrying enough power in his hands and legs to end fights early. Among his career highlights, Perez stopped previously unbeaten prospect Jose Torres in the first round at UFC 227, and delivered a Performance of the Night leg-kick TKO over former title challenger Jussier Formiga at UFC 250. That win propelled him into a UFC Flyweight Championship bout against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255, a short-notice title opportunity in which Perez fell to a first-round guillotine choke submission.

A former title challenger with one of the most reliable finishing rates in the flyweight division, Perez has built a career reputation as a durable, technically sound grinder capable of ending a fight at any moment, cementing his standing as one of the division's most respected veterans.
