Career Overview

María Guadalupe "Loopy" Godínez González, known to fans simply as Loopy Godinez, is a Mexican-Canadian dual citizen competing in the UFC women's strawweight division.

Born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, her family fled cartel threats when she was a teenager and relocated to Vancouver, Canada, where she rebuilt her life from scratch. She had trained in judo as a child in Mexico and returned to the discipline in Canada, later crossing over into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after being inspired by Ronda Rousey's judo-to-MMA path. She turned professional and worked her way up through the Canadian and North American regional circuits before eventually relocating her camp to Lobo Gym in Guadalajara, Mexico, where she trains alongside Alexa Grasso and Irene Aldana under head coach Francisco "Pancho" Grasso.

Godinez holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and built her early reputation as a two-time regional champion, becoming the first woman in Legacy Fighting Alliance history to dethrone a reigning champion. Inside the Octagon, she has twice earned Performance of the Night honors and became the first woman to win four UFC fights within a single calendar year.

Godinez fights behind a grappling-heavy foundation built on judo throws and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu submissions, mixing takedowns and top control with a striking game that has grown sharper with every camp. She is comfortable hunting finishes on the canvas, having collected wins by armbar and rear-naked choke, while also showing the durability and fight IQ to grind out decisions against elite competition.

Her UFC resume includes finishes over Silvana Gomez Juarez and Elise Reed, along with decision wins over Cynthia Calvillo, Tabatha Ricci, and former champion Jessica Andrade.

Beyond the record book, Godinez has become a symbol of resilience, representing the growing wave of Mexican talent reshaping the UFC strawweight division and carrying her family's story of survival into every walk to the cage.
