Hype FC’s second major stop lands in South America on October 4, when Hype FC Ecuador touches down at the Coliseo General Rumiñahui in Quito. The submission-only grappling promotion, which pairs grappling superfights with bare-knuckle boxing, makes its Ecuador debut with a rematch nearly six years in the making: hometown star Marlon “Chito” Vera against Brazilian legend Jose Aldo.
The co-main is just as loaded. Colby Covington, a former UFC interim welterweight champion, grapples with Mayton Perea, the UFC’s newest Ecuadorian signee and the hometown crowd’s other reason to show up. Fifteen bouts round out the card in total, mixing submission-only grappling with bare-knuckle boxing across the main card and prelims.

Marlon Vera vs. Jose Aldo
Vera and Aldo have unfinished business. The two first met at UFC Vegas 17 in December 2020, where Aldo won by unanimous decision, his first win since dropping to bantamweight. Nearly six years later, they run it back under grappling rules, where only a submission gets your hand raised.
This is Aldo’s first competitive appearance since announcing his second retirement from the UFC. The Brazilian legend, a UFC Hall of Famer (inducted 2023) and former featherweight champion who finishes his career 32-10, walked away after a controversial split-decision loss to Aiemann Zahabi at UFC 315, telling reporters, “I don’t think I have it in me anymore.” Hype FC Ecuador marks his return to competition, just not inside the Octagon.
Vera arrives with his own storyline to settle. The Ecuadorian had dropped four straight, including a split-decision loss to that same Aiemann Zahabi in October 2025, before snapping the skid with a third-round TKO of Charles Jourdain at UFC 331 two weeks before stepping onto the mat in Quito. A win over Aldo, even under grappling rules, would keep that momentum rolling in front of his home crowd.
Colby Covington vs. Mayton Perea
The co-main brings a different kind of crossover intrigue between two fighters at very different points in their careers.
Covington rides a wave of momentum from another wrestling promotion into Quito. Two weeks ago at RAF 13, he retained his RAF cruiserweight crossover title with a technical fall stoppage of Belal Muhammad, keeping his record in the freestyle wrestling promotion unbeaten. The former UFC interim welterweight champion and two-time All-American wrestler at Oregon State has turned RAF into a platform for his post-UFC career, and Hype FC Ecuador is his next stop on that circuit, this time on the grappling mat instead of the wrestling one.
Perea, meanwhile, trains out of Machala under coach David Chamaidan and punched his ticket to the UFC with a 45-second knockout of Zevan Hunt on Dana White’s Contender Series, earning a four-fight contract. This bout with Covington doubles as a measuring-stick outing ahead of Perea’s official UFC debut, tentatively expected in December, and a chance for the hometown fighter to test himself against one of the sport’s most decorated crossover wrestlers on his own mat.
