Hype FC heads to Georgia for the first time Saturday, with Roman Dolidze headlining on home soil against Oktagon interim middleweight champion Makhmud Muradov in a submission-only main event. In the co-main, Muhammad Mokaev, two weeks removed from winning the ACBJJ 22 no-gi title, steps onto the mat against 2016 Olympic gold medalist Vladimer Khinchegashvili. The card runs at Tbilisi Arena with a 9 AM Eastern start.

Roman Dolidze vs. Makhmud Muradov

Roman Dolidze (15-6) is on three straight UFC losses, the last a 40-second TKO to Reinier de Ridder in August. He’s 38, started his professional career at 28 after years as a goalkeeper in Turkey, and spent most of his UFC run at middleweight before shifting to light heavyweight. The losses don’t reflect who he is on the mat. Dolidze is an ADCC Asia and Oceania champion with a sambo and jiu-jitsu base, and Saturday night in Tbilisi, with a full arena behind him, is the kind of setting where he can show that.

Makhmud “Mach” Muradov (30-8) doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Born in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, he fled the civil war as a child and ended up in the Czech Republic, picked up Uzbek citizenship, and became the first Tajik-born fighter in the UFC. After leaving the promotion, he built himself into the Oktagon interim middleweight champion on a five-fight winning run. His sambo base is legitimate, and while the crowd won’t be with him, Muradov is not here to fill a spot on the card.

Muhammad Mokaev vs. Vladimer Khinchegashvili

Muhammad Mokaev went 7-0 in the UFC, posted four submissions, and tied the third-longest win streak in flyweight division history. Dana White cut him after the Manel Kape decision at UFC 304, citing “outside-the-cage issues” without elaborating. Mokaev’s answer was to do exactly what White told him to: become a champion somewhere else.

Two weeks ago at ACBJJ 22, he won the no-gi title via arm triangle over Moris Boleian in a match that drew attention for more than the result. Mokaev headbutted his opponent mid-match, still took the gold, and called Dana White out right after. Born in Dagestan, he moved to England at 12 following his mother’s death, spent time in a Liverpool refugee centre, and settled in Manchester. He walks into Saturday as a title-holder who still hasn’t been given a proper stage.

Vladimer Khinchegashvili is not a token name. He took Olympic gold at Rio 2016 in 57kg freestyle wrestling, silver in London four years before that, the World Championship in 2015, and three European titles. After retiring from wrestling, he became Mayor of Gori, then moved into the Georgian parliament. He’s competing in his own city, in front of a crowd that knows who he is. Mokaev has the sharper submission game, but getting past a two-time Olympic medalist on his home turf is a proper test.
