Amir Albazi

Amir Albazi, known to fight fans as "The Prince," is an Iraqi mixed martial artist who competes in the flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Born in Baghdad, Albazi fled Iraq with his family as a child, spending roughly a year and a half in Syria before the family settled in Bredäng, a Stockholm suburb, where he grew up navigating the challenges of immigrant life in Sweden. After watching a UFC broadcast on television, he walked into the nearest gym and began training, a decision that launched a martial arts journey through Fightzone Stockholm, London Shootfighters and later Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas. He also earned a sports science degree from the University of Roehampton in London while continuing to compete on the European regional circuit.

A purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Albazi built an extensive grappling résumé before turning to professional MMA, collecting multiple Swedish national titles along with Scandinavian, European and Asian grappling championships, as well as a world title. He also captured regional MMA gold, including the UCMMA and FightStar bantamweight championships, before signing with the UFC.

Inside the cage, Albazi fights as an aggressive submission specialist who pairs sharp, technical striking with relentless scrambling and top-control grappling, using that pressure to hunt for chokes and joint locks. He has finished opponents by both knockout and submission, giving him a well-rounded and awkward stylistic profile for opponents at 125 pounds.

Since joining the UFC roster in 2020, Albazi has recorded notable victories over Zhalgas Zhumagulov, Alessandro Costa, Francisco Figueiredo — the latter via a first-round rear-naked choke at UFC 278 — and Kai Kara-France in a hard-fought main event.

As one of the first fighters of Iraqi origin to compete in the UFC, Albazi has spoken openly about representing Arab and Kurdish fighters on the sport's biggest stage and about his ambition to help build mixed martial arts infrastructure in Iraq.
