Mauricio Ruffy

Mauricio Ruffy, known professionally as "One Shot," is a Brazilian lightweight competing in the UFC. Born and raised in Coruripe, Alagoas, he began training in martial arts as a teenager before relocating to São Paulo to chase a professional fighting career. Before fully committing to the sport, he held a variety of jobs, including a stint working as a bodyguard, and he has spoken openly about the winding path that eventually led him to full-time competition. In São Paulo he joined Fighting Nerds, the Brazilian team built around the idea that dedicated, detail-oriented training can coexist with an unabashedly geeky identity, and his own fighting name reflects that ethos, having been inspired by the anime character Monkey D. Luffy.

Ruffy earned his spot on the UFC roster with a stoppage win over Raimond Magomedaliev on Dana White's Contender Series, capping a regional run that also included a notable victory over UFC veteran Ronys Torres. He is known first and foremost as a striker, blending capoeira- and taekwondo-influenced kicks with Muay Thai and boxing fundamentals into an unpredictable, high-flair attack, while maintaining that his grappling holds surprises he has yet to fully showcase inside the Octagon.

His UFC debut produced a finish of Jamie Mullarkey that earned a Performance of the Night bonus, and he later delivered a spinning wheel kick knockout of King Green that was celebrated as one of the standout knockouts of the year. Those performances, combined with his flamboyant persona, have drawn frequent comparisons to Conor McGregor, comparisons Ruffy has embraced rather than shied away from. Between the One Piece-inspired branding, the Fighting Nerds affiliation, and a fighting style built for highlight reels, Ruffy has carved out an identity as one of the sport's more colorful and unpredictable attractions, a fighter equally invested in entertaining crowds and finishing fights in spectacular fashion.
