Arman Tsarukyan

Arman Tsarukyan, known by the nickname "Ahalkalakets," is an Armenian mixed martial artist who competes in the lightweight division of the UFC.

Born in Akhalkalaki, Georgia, to an Armenian family that later relocated to Khabarovsk, Russia, Tsarukyan grew up wrestling before spending several years playing junior ice hockey. He returned to combat sports as a teenager and built his name on the regional amateur circuit before turning professional. He came up training with the Lion Heart team in Khabarovsk and later relocated to American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida, broadening his striking while keeping wrestling as the foundation of his game.

Tsarukyan holds the Master of Sports designation in both freestyle wrestling and mixed martial arts, a credential reserved for elite-level Russian and former Soviet-bloc competitors. Before signing with the UFC, he compiled amateur and semi-professional titles in pankration and sambo, reflecting a grappling pedigree built well before he ever stepped into a cage.

He fights as a pressure-oriented wrestler who drives forward to back opponents toward the fence and secure takedowns. On the mat, he blends scrambles and top control with a dangerous submission game, having finished opponents by rear-naked choke and arm-triangle choke. He has also sharpened his striking into a genuine weapon, capable of ending fights with punches as well as grappling, making him a threat everywhere the fight goes.

His UFC resume includes a razor-close split-decision loss to Islam Makhachev, taken on short notice early in his career against a then-unbeaten opponent, a result that signaled his ceiling long before he became a top contender. He has since added a first-round knockout of Beneil Dariush, a submission win over Dan Hooker, and a split-decision win over former champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 300, among the signature wins of his career.

Tsarukyan has established himself as one of the most feared grapplers in the lightweight division, a wrestler-first fighter who has evolved into a complete mixed martial artist. Fighting out of Yerevan, Armenia, he is regarded as a standard-bearer for Armenian MMA and one of the division's most dangerous, well-rounded competitors.
