Beneil Dariush

Beneil Khobier Dariush, known as "Benny," is an Iranian-American mixed martial artist who competes in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Born in Urmia, Iran, to an Assyrian Christian family, Dariush emigrated to the United States with his parents as a child, settling in Southern California among extended relatives. He began training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in the mid-2000s and turned professional in mixed martial arts in 2009, building a record on the regional circuit before signing with the UFC.

Dariush holds a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under renowned grappler Rômulo Barral, having captured no-gi world titles at the blue, purple, and brown belt levels on his way up the ranks. He also holds a black belt in Muay Thai under striking coach Rafael Cordeiro, giving him a rare dual pedigree spanning grappling and striking. He trains out of Kings MMA in Huntington Beach, California, a camp known for developing high-level lightweight and welterweight competitors.

Though he built his early reputation as a submission specialist capable of finishing fights from nearly any position, Dariush evolved into a well-rounded threat over the course of his UFC tenure, layering knockout power and sharpened striking onto his grappling foundation.

Dariush made his UFC debut in January 2014, submitting his opponent in the first round on short notice. He went on to score notable wins over a string of respected contenders, including a first-round knockout of James Vick, two hard-fought victories against Carlos Diego Ferreira, a unanimous decision over former title challenger Tony Ferguson, and a decision win over top contender Mateusz Gamrot. His performances have earned him multiple Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night bonuses.

Outside the cage, Dariush is recognized for his humility and character, having received the Forrest Griffin Community Award for charitable work supporting orphanages and educational initiatives. As one of the sport's most credentialed grapplers and a proud representative of the Iranian and Assyrian communities, he stands among the most respected and enduring figures in UFC lightweight history.
