Robert Whittaker
Robert Whittaker, known as "The Reaper," is an Australian mixed martial artist who has competed for the UFC in the middleweight division. Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, he carries both Samoan and Māori heritage and represents Australia as his adopted home.
Whittaker's rise through the sport began when he won a season of The Ultimate Fighter as a welterweight before moving up in weight and developing into one of the promotion's most dangerous middleweights. His credentials include black belt rank in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well as black belts in Hapkido and Gōjū-ryū Karate, giving him a well-rounded grappling and striking base long before he became a champion.
Inside the cage, Whittaker built a reputation as a versatile, high-output striker with excellent footwork and fight IQ, able to shift levels between crisp boxing, kicks, and clinch work while also possessing a sound wrestling and jiu-jitsu foundation to control opponents when needed. That adaptability allowed him to solve a wide range of styles across his career.
His signature achievement came in 2017, when he defeated Yoel Romero to capture the interim UFC middleweight title, later being elevated to undisputed champion. He defended the belt against Romero in a rematch before eventually losing it to Israel Adesanya, a defeat that closed one chapter of his championship reign but not his standing in the division.
