After a four-week long hiatus spanning over Christmas and New Years, the UFC is finally back with more fights this weekend in UFC Vegas 84. The event will take place in the UFC Apex on Saturday, January 13th, with the prelims starting at 4:00pm EST. The main event will be the rematch between top Light Heavyweight Contenders Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker. This card is as star-studded as it gets at the Apex.
Here’s what to look out for:
Magomed Ankalaev VS Johnny Walker 1 took place at UFC 284 in Abu Dhabi back in October. But resulted in a no-contest after Ankalaev landed an illegal knee on Walker while he was downed. The headlining rematch will settle the score between the two contenders and will likely have implications as to who is and isn’t in the Light Heavyweight title picture.

The co-main event features the number 5 and 6 ranked Men’s Flyweights, Matheus Nicolau and Manel Kape. This fight is also a rematch between two top contenders. As Nicolau previously beat Kape by split decision in March of 2021. Although, since then Kape has been on a four-fight win streak with two first-round knockouts. This fight could also have heavy title implications. As the winner may be next in line for a title shot after the winner of Moreno VS Albazi in February.
Other notable fights on the card include:
The legendary UFC Lightweight Jim Miller. Who holds the record for the most fights in UFC history at 42 bouts, will be facing off against Gabriel Benitez
Mario Bautista will be fighting for a spot in the Bantamweight rankings against #13 ranked Ricky Simon
UFC Heavyweight legend Andre Arlovski, who holds the record for the SECOND most fights in UFC history at 40 bouts. Returns to face upcoming contender Waldo Cortes-Acosta as the featured prelim bout.
Despite the drawback of having no crowd, UFC Vegas 84 is a strong start for the organization in 2024. Giving us some great matchups, including two fights that will undoubtedly get the fans talking about the title picture in their respective divisions.
