Check out the betting guide for UFC 296 ahead of Saturday’s PPV event, which features Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington in the Welterweight championship main event.
Ranked No. 4 Colby Covington faces off in a five-round main event against the champion Leon Edwards on Dec. 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
According to the UFC 296 odds board, Leon Edwards is currently the favorite at -140 (bet $140 to win $100). In contrast, Colby Covington is the underdog at +120 (bet $100 to win $120). This implies a 58.33% win probability for Edwards.
Leon Edwards (-140) vs. Colby Covington (+120)
Buckle up, we got an absolute banger of a main event to close out the year! Skill-wise, a very even fight. But personality-wise, Leon Edwards and Colby Covington couldn’t be more opposite.
Covington is a madman. He is constantly pressuring forward and right in your face the entire fight. In addition, he has the gas tank to last ten rounds. There’s not a whole lot to break down. The combination of Covington’s cardio and being an underdog was enough of an evaluation for me.
Bet: Colby Covington
Alexandre Pantoja (-170) vs. Brandon Royval (+140)
The way Alexandre Pantoja beat Brandon Moreno 4 months ago was incredible. The heart and composure he displayed to pull off that victory were truly remarkable.
On the other hand, Brandon Royval is like the Tasmanian devil. He’ll throw everything at you and charge head first, which is part of the reason he got caught in a submission in their first fight. The only way Royval wins would be by catching him on the feet with some wild game plan, which could happen. If you are prop chasing, bet on Royval by KO/TKO (+255)
Pantoja is a cleaner, more consistent fighter. Plus, he’s more skillful in every category. Not to mention, the champion at (-170) is a steal. And still, Alexandre Pantoja!
Bet: Alexandre Pantoja
Shavkat Rakhmonov (-625) vs. Stephen Thompson (+450)
Shavkat Rakhmonov is the biggest betting favorite on UFC 296. So much so that it almost feels like we are stepping into a trap.
Stephen Thompson is one of the most precise and accurate strikers. When it comes to a stand-up fight, he dominates. However, when opponents start combining takedowns, he struggles. For example, look at the Gilbert Burns fight. Burns mixed it up, shooting for takedowns, throwing Wonderboy off his game to where he couldn’t get into a flow.
Rakhmonov seems like the easy bet. My only concern is if he decides to stand and trade with Wonderboy. The last two people who tried to stand and bang with him lost (Kevin Holland and Geoff Neal). But we all know Rakhmonov has a higher fight IQ than the two combined.
I have excessive faith in Shavkat Rakhmonov. Submission at (+125) could be a nice prop bet.
Bet: Shavkat Rakhmonov
