Ian Machado Garry

Ian Machado Garry, known by the nickname "The Future," is an Irish mixed martial artist who competes in the welterweight division of the UFC.

Garry grew up in Portmarnock, County Dublin, Ireland. He began training in boxing as a child and later earned a black belt in judo, building a striking-and-grappling foundation years before turning to professional MMA. Drawn to the sport in part by the rise of Irish mixed martial artists on the world stage, he left college to pursue fighting full-time, working outside jobs in Dublin to support his early training before dedicating himself entirely to the sport.

Before signing with the UFC, Garry built his credentials on the European regional circuit, capturing the welterweight championship of Cage Warriors, one of Europe's premier MMA promotions, with a unanimous-decision win over Jack Grant that went the five-round distance.

Garry fights as a versatile striker-grappler, drawing on his boxing pedigree for hand speed and combination punching while relying on his judo background for clinch control and takedown defense. He is comfortable pressing the action or countering, and his camp has emphasized well-rounded, adaptable game plans built for championship-level competition.

He made his promotional debut at UFC 268 in New York, stopping Jordan Williams with a first-round knockout in his Octagon debut. He went on to earn a Performance of the Night bonus for a first-round TKO finish over Daniel Rodriguez, a result built around a head-kick-and-punches combination, further establishing him as one of the division's most dangerous finishers.
