Leon Edwards
Leon Edwards, known to fight fans as "Rocky," is a British-Jamaican mixed martial artist who competes in the UFC welterweight division.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Edwards relocated to Birmingham, England, as a child, growing up in the city's Aston area. After a difficult adolescence, he found direction in martial arts, joining a local gym in his teens and channeling his energy into training rather than the streets. He has trained with Team Renegade in Birmingham throughout his professional rise.
Edwards holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a credential that underscores the technical foundation of his ground game and complements his standup arsenal.
A composed, calculating southpaw, Edwards is known for his high fight IQ, sharp counter-striking, and versatility across every phase of combat. He mixes precise boxing and kicks with a capable wrestling and grappling game, allowing him to adapt his approach against a wide range of styles.
Edwards worked his way up the UFC welterweight ranks over the course of many years, stringing together a long unbeaten run through the division's contenders and former champions before earning a shot at the undisputed title. At UFC 278 in August 2022, he produced one of the sport's most iconic moments, landing a fight-ending head kick on then-champion Kamaru Usman in the fifth round to capture the UFC welterweight championship. He went on to defend the belt, first with a majority decision win in an immediate rematch with Usman, and later with a unanimous decision victory over Colby Covington
