Sean O’Malley
Sean Daniel O'Malley, known as "Suga" (also styled "Sugar"), is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Born and raised in Helena, Montana, O'Malley built an active amateur record in MMA, kickboxing and boxing on the regional Montana circuit before relocating to Arizona to train full-time at The MMA Lab in Glendale under head coach John Crouch and striking coach Tim Welch, the gym that has shaped his career ever since. He earned his spot on the UFC roster with a first-round knockout of Alfred Khashakyan on Dana White's Contender Series.
O'Malley holds a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Augusto "Tanquinho" Mendes, giving him a well-rounded grappling foundation to complement his striking pedigree.
Standing tall for the division with an unusually long reach for a bantamweight, O'Malley built his reputation on an unorthodox, high-volume striking style built around sharp counters, spinning attacks and finishing power that is rare at 135 pounds. His technical accuracy and highlight-reel finishes, including knockouts of Eddie Wineland and Thomas Almeida, made him one of the promotion's most closely watched strikers.
A signature win over Petr Yan vaulted him into title contention, and O'Malley captured the UFC bantamweight championship by stopping Aljamain Sterling via second-round TKO at UFC 292 in Boston. He made a successful title defense against Marlon Vera at UFC 299 in Miami.
