Song Yadong

Song Yadong, known by the nickname "The Kung Fu Kid," is a Chinese mixed martial artist who competes in the bantamweight division of the UFC.

Born in Harbin, in China's Heilongjiang province, Song began training in martial arts as a young child, eventually settling into competitive sanda, a form of Chinese kickboxing, in his early teens. He turned professional on the Chinese regional circuit before relocating to Sacramento, California, to train alongside the roster at Team Alpha Male, where he broadened his game under a staff built around wrestling and jiu-jitsu.

Song signed with the UFC and made his promotional debut on the card in Shanghai that marked the organization's first event held in mainland China. Over the course of his UFC tenure he has been recognized with multiple Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night bonuses, awards reserved for standout UFC performances.

Stylistically, Song fights as an aggressive, high-output striker, drawing on his sanda foundation for crisp combination punching and kicks while pressuring opponents behind constant forward movement. His time with Team Alpha Male has added a more complete wrestling and ground game to what was originally a pure striking base, giving him the ability to mix levels rather than rely solely on his hands and feet.

Among the notable names on his UFC resume are Marlon Moraes, Ricky Simon, and Kyler Phillips, along with a hard-fought bout against top contender Cory Sandhagen. He has also headlined multiple UFC Fight Night cards, a notable feat for a fighter from mainland China.

Song is widely regarded as one of the flag-bearers for the growth of mixed martial arts in China, part of a small group of fighters credited with raising the sport's profile domestically and helping pave the way for future Chinese athletes on the world's biggest MMA stage.
