Miranda Maverick

Miranda "Fear The" Maverick is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the women's flyweight division of the UFC.

Born in Tunas, Missouri, Maverick grew up in a farming family that relocated frequently across the Midwest, work that helped build the physicality she later brought into combat sports. She began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at 16, initially for self-defense, and advanced quickly enough to spar with adult male practitioners within her first year. She also wrestled on the boys varsity team at Buffalo High School in Missouri during her senior year, giving her an early foundation in takedowns and control that continues to define her game.

Maverick turned professional in 2016 and rose through the regional ranks before signing with Invicta Fighting Championships, where she won the promotion's Phoenix Rising Series flyweight tournament, submitting both opponents on the same night. The performance earned her a call to the UFC, and she made her promotional debut at UFC 254 in Abu Dhabi, defeating Liana Jojua.

A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Maverick trains out of Team Elevation in Denver, Colorado, where high-altitude conditioning and a deep roster of training partners have sharpened her wrestling and ground game. Her style centers on relentless forward pressure, chain wrestling, and top control, setting up finishes once the fight hits the mat. Career highlights include victories over Gillian Robertson, Andrea Lee, and an armbar submission of Priscila Cachoeira.

Outside the cage, Maverick has built a reputation for pairing elite competition with academic achievement, holding a psychology and sociology degree from Drury University and pursuing a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Old Dominion University, a duality that has made her one of the more distinctive personalities in the flyweight division.
