Raquel Pennington
Raquel Pennington, known as "Rocky," is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the UFC women's bantamweight division.
Pennington began training in martial arts after recovering from a serious back injury, later drawing inspiration from a Gina Carano bout to pursue fighting seriously. She built her early amateur and professional resume in Colorado Springs before earning a spot on the inaugural women's season of The Ultimate Fighter (Season 18), where she reached the tournament semifinals and earned a Fight of the Season nod for her quarterfinal war with Jessamyn Duke. She has trained extensively with striking coach Justin Houghton at Pound4Pound Muay Thai in Denver, a partnership credited with sharpening the hand combinations and pressure that came to define her later career.
Across more than a decade in the UFC, Pennington earned a Performance of the Night bonus for a submission win over Jessica Andrade and established herself as one of the promotion's most active and durable women's bantamweights.
Stylistically, Pennington is a pressure fighter built around volume striking, tight hand combinations, and underrated grappling instincts, including a reliable guillotine choke she has used to finish opponents. Her calling card has always been toughness and durability, a veteran who wears opponents down over the course of a fight rather than relying on one-shot power.
Her resume includes notable wins over former champion Miesha Tate, a highlight-reel submission of Andrade, and victories over top contenders Aspen Ladd and Ketlen Vieira. The signature achievement of her career came at UFC 297, where she captured the vacant UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship with a decision win over Mayra Bueno Silva, later losing the belt in a closely contested decision to Julianna Pena
