Steve Erceg
Steve Erceg, known by the nickname "Astroboy," is an Australian mixed martial artist who competes in the flyweight division of the UFC.
Erceg was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia. He was drawn to martial arts after watching Frank Mir submit a much larger Brock Lesnar at UFC 81, a moment that sparked his interest in grappling. He began training locally before rising through Australian regional promotions, most notably capturing and defending the Eternal MMA Flyweight Championship before earning a spot on the UFC roster. He trains out of Wilkes Martial Arts in Perth under coach David Wilkes.
A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Erceg also won a gold medal in the 65kg division at the Australian freestyle wrestling national championships and has competition experience in muay thai, giving him a well-rounded combat sports foundation beneath his mixed martial arts game.
Inside the cage, Erceg is a versatile threat who blends crisp boxing and sharp leg kicks with a dangerous submission arsenal built around the guillotine and rear-naked choke, allowing him to finish fights both standing and on the mat.
Erceg's UFC tenure opened with a statement win, taking a unanimous decision over David Dvořák at UFC 289 that earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. He followed with a decision victory over Alessandro Costa at UFC 295 and a highlight-reel second-round knockout of Matt Schnell, collecting a second Performance of the Night bonus in the process. That surge propelled him into a UFC Flyweight Championship opportunity against titleholder Alexandre Pantoja
