Ciryl Gane

Ciryl Romain Gane, known as “Bon Gamin” (French for “Good Kid”), is a French heavyweight who competes in the UFC and is widely regarded as one of the most technically accomplished heavyweights in the division’s history. Born on February 5, 1990, in Paris, Gane came to MMA relatively late, having competed in Muay Thai at a high level before transitioning to full MMA training at the MMA Factory gym in Paris under coach Fernand Lopez.

Gane’s UFC rise was rapid and impressive: he went unbeaten in his first ten UFC bouts, captured the interim heavyweight championship with a dominant performance against Derrick Lewis at UFC 265 in August 2021, and challenged Francis Ngannou for the undisputed title at UFC 270 in January 2022 — losing by unanimous decision in a technically fascinating matchup. He rebounded with wins over Tai Tuivasa and Serghei Spivac before a brief title reign after beating Jones was disrupted, and has remained a consistent top-three heavyweight throughout the division’s most competitive recent era.

What separates Gane from heavyweight peers is his footwork, range control, and technical fluency. He uses lateral movement, teep kicks, and a varied striking game that was previously unseen at heavyweight, making him extraordinarily difficult to close distance on or target cleanly.
