Justin Gaethje

Justin Ray Gaethje, known as “The Highlight,” is an American mixed martial artist from Safford, Arizona, who competes in the UFC lightweight division and is universally regarded as the sport’s premier pressure fighter. Born on November 14, 1988, Gaethje was a decorated wrestler at the University of Northern Colorado before channeling that grit into one of MMA’s most aggressive forward-moving styles, built on elite takedown defense, brutal leg kicks, and relentless forward pressure.

Gaethje won the interim UFC Lightweight Championship by stopping Tony Ferguson in May 2020, then challenged Khabib Nurmagomedov in a title unification bout at UFC 254. After subsequent losses to Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev, he bounced back with signature performances including a brutal BMF title fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 291 — which he won by head-kick KO — before a late-submission loss to Makhachev in their UFC 300 rematch.
