Justin Gaethje

Justin Ray Gaethje, known by the nickname "The Highlight," is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the lightweight division of the UFC.

Raised in Safford, Arizona, Gaethje built his combat foundation on the wrestling mat before turning to mixed martial arts. He wrestled collegiately at the University of Northern Colorado and has spent the majority of his professional career training at Elevation Fight Team in Denver, Colorado, under longtime head coach Trevor Wittman.

His amateur wrestling credentials are well documented: Gaethje earned NCAA Division I All-American honors at the University of Northern Colorado, becoming the program's first wrestler to reach that level in decades, and was later inducted into the university's athletics hall of fame. He converted that wrestling foundation into a perfect amateur mixed martial arts record before turning professional.

In the cage, Gaethje is known for an aggressive, forward-marching striking style that intentionally sets aside his wrestling pedigree in favor of stand-up exchanges. His signature weapon is a heavy, chopping leg kick that has repeatedly hampered opponents' mobility, paired with thudding hands and a granite chin that let him absorb punishment while continuing to press forward until a finish arrives.

He built his early reputation as the first and only lightweight champion of World Series of Fighting (WSOF), a title he defended several times before signing with the UFC. There he captured the interim lightweight championship by defeating Tony Ferguson, challenged both Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira for undisputed gold, knocked out Dustin Poirier to claim the promotion's BMF title, later added a second interim lightweight title with a win over Paddy Pimblett, and defeated Ilia Topuria
