Ilia Topuria, known as "El Matador," is a Georgian-Spanish mixed martial artist born in Halle, Germany, who has competed for the UFC at featherweight and lightweight.

Topuria was born to Georgian parents and split his upbringing between Germany, Georgia, and Spain before settling in Alicante, where he built his career at Climent Club under coaches Jorge and Agustin Climent, with additional training time at MMA Masters. He began competing professionally on the European regional circuit, capturing a bantamweight title with Cage Warriors before signing with the UFC.

Topuria holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and brings a Greco-Roman wrestling foundation from his time training in Georgia, giving him a well-rounded credential base that underpins his stand-and-trade reputation.
